Mascot Launch

Wenlock Olympian Society's PR Secretary, Helen Clare Cromarty, expressed the amazement and pride felt by the Society and the town of Wenlock when  she described the unveiling of the Olympic Mascots' names on 19th May 2010 to a startled audience of locals, dignitories and Society members.

"There  were 130 people crowded into Priory Hall, ostensibly for 'an evening with Jonathan Edwards'.  There was no warning - Jonathan  introduced the short animated film and then stood back to watch with us  all.  When the little mascots' names were said, there was an audible  gasp of astonishment.  As the film ended , everyone clapped and cheered- what a moment!  The Wenock Olympian Society - run entirely by  volunteers - has work so hard to increase public awareness of Wenlock  Olympian Games' significance in the Olympic story, and the work of our founder, William Penny Brookes.  Now we feel its all been worthwhile.

The phone hasn't stopped ringing with well wishers, press wanting quotes  - and my WOS mail box is full - so that's my coffee, lunch and tea  breaks gone!  Like most of Wenlock, I'm still on a high.  It's such an  honour, its amazing, and its daunting.

So, on behalf of WOS, I'd like to say a very humble 'thank you, LOCOG".
