FEBRUARY 2010
The Society aims to encourage and promote Sport and the Live Arts in Much Wenlock. An Olympian Weekend with a number of sports is held in July each year. Fourteen sports were included in the Games programme in 2009. Complete results of the 2009 event are shown on the web-site. A Live Arts Festival for local school children is held in March. Membership of the Society is available to everyone and new members will be welcomed. The Annual General meeting and Committee meetings are open to visitors.

Volunteers
The Live Arts Festival takes place in March at William Brookes School. Adult volunteers are required to steward the event (dates below). If you can be available for an hour or more please contact Diane Cavalier 727819.
Cricket
2009 brought a change to the Cricket programme for the Games with the addition of a “Kwik Cricket” Competition with primary schools from South Shropshire competing at Much Wenlock. This was very successful and the Society continues to support this initiative and the associated coaching by the Cricket Club and the County Cricket Development Officer.
If your school wants to be involved in 2010 please contact us.
The Fencing Club
Contact Ismay Cowen 01952 740429 for details of the club’s activities.
This is the only Club in the County catering for fencers of primary school age and above.
The Athletics Club
The club caters for athletes 8 – 16. Our emphasis is on enjoyment of athletics with the opportunity to compete. The club competes in local leagues and provides opportunity for a wider range of competition for older athletes.
Check with Linda Dadswell (01952 882848) for details of training. Come along initially to the Saturday sessions if you would like to try Athletics. Saturday training is at Much Wenlock Leisure Centre 9:15 to 10:30am.
We are also looking for coaches who would like to assist with track and field events. If you have an interest in the sport and would like to be involved please contact us. The club will meet UKA costs for coach training. Contact: Linda Dadswell
If you are an older athlete and would like to be involved with the club we offer senior affiliation. There are informal training sessions for all levels of athlete arranged to suit the needs of members.
U13 boys win title
Wenlock Olympians Athletic Club’s Under 13 boys team recently won the Shropshire County cross country title.
The win was achieved at the County Championships held at Lilleshall. Having secured second place in the Shropshire Cross Country League the week before, the boys ran a determined team race to beat Telford & Oswestry into 2nd & 3rd place.
One of over 50 runners, Arthur Charlesworth continued his fine form to finish 4th and also secure a place in the County Team for the National Championships.
Conner Owen has shown great improvement this year and he followed in 13th place. Sam Boden (21st), Richard Godfrey (24th) & Henry Fawcett (29th) completed the winning performances.
The boys title win is thought to be the first County Title won by a Wenlock Olympian team at the cross Country event.
Zoe & Amy Partridge have also secured their places at the National Championships in the Under 15 Girls team.
The Bowling Club
The green is now closed for the Winter and will reopen open in April 2010.
