The Wenlock Olympian Games golf competition is held at different courses across Shropshire. The first was in 1999 at Telford & Great Hay Golf Course, and other venues have included Bridgnorth, Shrewsbury, Shifnal, The Shropshire at Muxton, and The Astbury at Chelmarsh. 2018 sees the competition once again at the lovely Bridgnorth golf course on Monday 16th July, and our thanks to Bridgnorth Golf Club for making the venue available for the event. Teams of 4 holding a registered handicap – men 24 and ladies 30 maximum – compete in 3 categories: Men, Ladies and Mixed (2 X men and 2 X ladies). It’s a stableford competition with the best three balls to count so that every member of the team has the opportunity to contribute. In the spirit of William Penny Brookes, the player with the highest score against their own handicap is made ‘Golfer of the Competition’.
The 2018 event is now finished. Many congratulations to all the winners, and to the competitors who took part in an excellent competition.
Thanks also to Bridgnorth Golf Club for hosting the event, and to Katie and the catering team for the lovely dinner.
